Kneipp - relaxation for body, mind and soul

Anyone who only associates Kneipp with an outdated healing method that has "something to do with water" is wrong: old yes, outdated no! Last year we celebrated the 200th birthday of Sebastian Kneipp, but his philosophies are still highly topical. Kneipp is experiencing a renaissance - because people are returning to naturalness, reduction and the simplicity of things.

5 pillars for a healthy life

The holistic approach with which Kneipp approached his healing philosophies is the key to his success. His fascination with the element of water is undeniable, but cannot be viewed in isolation. Water is just one of the 5 pillars that Kneipp used in his medicine.

  • Order of life
  • Indulgence
  • Medicinal herbs
  • Movement
  • Water

1. order of life - the inner balance

Kneipp's first pillar in particular is more topical than ever - "order of life" stands for a life in balance, for mindfulness and slowing down. Difficult to implement in a society that is always striving faster, higher and further. As early as the 19th century, Kneipp recognized the importance of inner peace for the health of body and soul.

Kneipp everyday tip: consciously use your breaks for yourself and take a few minutes every day to meditate. Listen to your breath.

2. indulgence - you are what you eat

The fact that nutrition is an important building block for a healthy and happy life is nothing new. Back then, Kneipp formulated what we would perhaps call "clean eating" today: Fresh and varied food, regional and seasonal, as little processed as possible.

Everyday Kneipp tip: Only eat what you could have eaten in your grandmother's day.

3. medicinal herbs - the Creator's pharmacy

The healing properties of many local herbs and plants were already known in the Middle Ages. Sebastian Kneipp used and refined this knowledge and compiled numerous methods with which the herbs can support the body internally and externally in healing itself.

Kneipp everyday tip: How about a lavender tea or some lavender oil in the aroma lamp? Lavender has a relaxing effect and helps with stress and sleep problems.

 4. movement - because no sport is also murder

Sport is an important cornerstone of Kneipp's healing methods, around which an entire industry has already developed. And not for nothing! Exercise makes us happy, lifts our mood and strengthens our body. As with all things, Kneipp recommended this: Not too much, not too little - and preferably in the fresh air.

Kneipp everyday tip: Get off one stop earlier on the way home and walk the rest - or deliberately park your car a little further away.

5. water - the source of life

Water is Kneipp's best-known therapeutic agent: he described over 100 water treatments. From alternating baths, pouring, compresses, ablutions, dew walking to the famous water treading. Kneipp was one of the first to discover how cold water activates the body's self-healing powers and strengthens the immune system.

Kneipp everyday tip: Enjoy your warm shower in peace and quiet, but at the end, get over yourself to take a short, cold shower!
